Scanned from the personal archives of the Rev. Cn. Dr. Leroy Lyons, the Black clergy and delegates “Vision Statement” from the diocesan convention of 1996 was presented to the convention during the tenure of Bishop Joe Doss, who would ultimately be removed, in part as a result of accusations of racism in his comments regarding Black Episcopalians in the diocese. The document is an important historical artifact of the long struggle for racial justice in the Diocese of New Jersey.
