In 2009 the General Convention of the Episcopal Church passed a resolution (A143) mandating that every diocese gather information on its history of racism. In 2020 the Diocese of New Jersey formally approved a Task Force on Reparations, in part to conduct a more detailed investigation. In 2022 Bishop Stokes formally commissioned the Task Force, and in the fall of 2022 the Commission hired Dr. Jolyon Pruszinski to conduct research, foster expansion of the work, and report on findings pertaining to the mandate.
