NEWS: CARICOM and Barbados Reparations Initiatives

There has been some excellent work done lately, not only on establishing the need for reparations for the Atlantic slave trade, native genocide, and the oppressive effects of the long-operating plantation economy in the Caribbean, but in setting forth necessary next steps in reparative work. The CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Reparations Commission has laid out a robust ten-point plan which can be found on their website. Recent initiatives in Barbados have helped support this work and are narrated compellingly in a recent article in TIME magazine by Janell Ross. The Anglican Church was integrally involved in these systems of oppression and can begin to make amends by fully engaging the reparations process as outlined here.
